Dubya gets the Nobel Prize

I went under the weather last night. Seasonal flu. I hadn't read the morning paper today, nor did I have any intentions of logging on to the PC, but I got so excited with this peculiar piece of news, that I thought I just had to! Minutes ago, I came over to my parents' place and they exclaimed, "Bush is being given the Nobel Prize!"

"What? The Nobel Prize for spreading terrorism, violence and hatred in the world?"

"No, for Peace!"

"Can't be. They would have to be out of their minds."

A little corner in my mind provoked me into stupidity. It reasoned that if a saviour of humanity as great as Pakistan's Abdul Sattar Edhi couldn't so much as qualify for a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, then there was something lacking in the system, and maybe the lobbies in Washington managed to exploit a loophole. Crazy things do happen!

I was pointed towards the newspaper, and the headline read:

"Alwidai Bosa! Bush ko Baghdad mein jootay parh gaey."
(Bunny hug! Bush gets shoe-smacked in Baghdad.)

Urdu readers are encouraged to come up with better translations.

Although I realise that the journalist behaved rather indecently, but kudos, it took guts! I do think, however, that Bush deserves these kinds of accolades, after the kinds of 'face-lifts' he and his government have given the world. I suddenly feel a lot better. Do you?

Yeah! I saw the shoe throwing on TV this night and I cheered for the brave journalist. =D Bush is a sock puppet with no will of his own, I'd like to know who's controlling him. Luckily he'll be gone soon and I do hope that Barak has the backbone to make his own decisions.

As cheap as it makes me sound, i was SO amused (and a little sad at the gentleman's poor aim :S)!! He merely put into action what we all want to do, eh?! It's sad what Bush has made us all stoop to.

He deserves a freaking trial for acting on faulty intelligence and being directly involved in the killing of hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians. Literally everything he's done in his term has ended up being a total disaster!

hav to say bush ducked quite well... lol.. all those years in the services finally comin to use... lol !!!

Kadri, who do you think is behind him? Obviously, what's been happening around the world can't be a one-man show even if there is one face alone. Dick Cheney?

Rabeea, you mourn 'the gentleman's poor aim', while Abdul Sami reckons the aim was good, but the ducking capabilities were even better!

Razz, lets hope the Hague tribunal is up to the ask. Like Pinochet, like Saddam, he should be tried too. The world was a very different place 8 years ago.

Alwidai Bosa .... i think it could be translated more accurately as a farewell kiss....

Yeah right he has some splendid reflexes...kia duck kia banday nay. It represent what ppl think abt him

Yes, that is a more literal translation. I guess I was trying to capture the fun quotient.

Criminal case? Preposterous!

I don't like disrespect to anyone.
This was the poorest one!
It shows typical of us: sold out rulers with caged free spirited lions (a lournalist in this case) doing joker like actions.

What good it can bring?
Just a third world emotional satisfaction.

Saaida, I don't think it's one person or anyone that I can name. The US is a capitalist country, money talks, follow the money and you'll find the puppeteers behind the Bush doll. The interest of the "market" rules over the good for the people, unless the market can benefit from the good of the people of course. The power is where the money is and not in the oval office.

Barak will face the same problem, people that want to buy him or that has bought the people around him, it's the nature of US politics, but I still hope that he'll be strong enough to see through the money bought and make intelligent decisions based on reality.

I think, it is wrong for anyone not to respect the basic norms of his profession. This is what encourages people to justify curbs on media. One must be aware of the end result of what one is doing, howsoever justified one may feel in doing what one is doing.

I doubt thats the kind of reaction one expects from a writer. A writers power is his words, he might have his reasons he might have gone through somme trauma buut that no way of treating the head of a state.

Bush is a true patriot, he did what he thought was necessary to stop inhuman terrorists from butchering his people. he might be your enemy but he should a hero atleast in the eyes of an american and that includes muslim americans.

Its time muslims stop playing victims. they have almost seemed to enjoy it. In India a lot of our top sportsmen, movie stars, politicians, policemen, businessmen are muslims stil the majority of the muslims act as if they are victimised.

Playing a victims is easy but it doesnt take you far. to be accepted in a society you have to move your hand too instead of sitting in a corner absuing everyone else for not coming to you.

Daanish, third world emotional satisfaction? Ask all the mothers who have lost innocent children, because of Bush's war on terrorism, which he sold to his people through a bunch of lies!

Onkar, I get you, but this act symbolises the frustration of millions. It is obviously not the sophisticated way of dealing with problems, but look how the world has reacted, making a folk hero out of young Muntezir Zaidi!

A, the head of state you are defending is the butt of everybody's jokes today, because of his own foolish tirades.

If you think he is or should be the hero in every American's eyes, you're so wrong. Please go and ask them.

As for Muslims acting victim and being given chances in "secular, democratic India", there are claims that Muslim cricket players and film stars make it to the top, Muslim cricketers have been threatened with their lives in the past, and the Muslim superstars of Bollywood were recently asked to 'pack bags and move to Pakistan' after the unfortunate Mumbai massacre, by many sections of your very own media.

Secondly, there are more Muslims in India than there are in Pakistan, so they are bound to spring up here and there. By and large, though, Muslims still feel subjugated and vulnerable. And there are good reasons why they do.
